Arrest in Port Alberni bear-spray attach

RCMP in Port Alberni have now arrested a man in connection with a bear-spray attack early Sunday morning.

The identity of the 35 year old man has not yet been released. He will appear in court on June 24, 2014 for charges of  possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and uttering threats.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday RCMP officers responded to a complaint of a man being sprayed with bear repellent (or bear spray). The officers tracked the man to a house on Argyle street.

When confronted by officers the man threatened to the residence with a device he claimed was explosive. Neighbours and other residents of the home were evacuated.

The suspect surrendered himself at approximately 2:15am and he remains in police custody.
